Laser vs Cold Knife for OIU in Stricture Urethra

Another Very frequent Query is : I have been advised OIU with a Laser. Is it better than conventional OIU/VIU?

The Truth is NO
There is indeed a hype for doing everything with Laser, OIU for stricture is no exception
In the beginning when Holmium Laser was described for stricture, it was portrayed as significantly superior
Initial scientific studies also showed this.

With time more studies came and long term results became available. And then came Systematic reviews
(Review of many studies together) with which it became clear that Laser adds no advantage in terms of
Long term success in OIU/VIU for urethral stricture.
A minimal advantage it provides is with a slightly decreased risk of bleeding and That’s it!!
Bleeding anyways is a negligible risk with OIU unless someone is on blood thinners which can’t be stopped Or having severe liver disease

That is why there is no Point in Choosing Laser over conventional OIU and spending extra money!
